MINISTRY OF INVESTMENT VISITS PT GLOBAL PAPUA ABADI SUGARCANE PLANTATION TO REVIEW SUGAR AND BIOETHANOL DEVELOPMENT IN MERAUKE, PAPUA

Merauke, May 17, 2024 – The Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, visited Merauke, South Papua, to review the progress of the Accelerated Sugar and Bioethanol Self-Sufficiency Project in the region.

In his capacity as Chair of the Sugar and Bioethanol Self-Sufficiency Task Force, Minister Bahlil carried out a series of activities in Merauke, including a visit to the sugarcane plantation area managed by PT Global Papua Abadi. He also reviewed several key facilities, including the Tissue Culture (TC) Laboratory, greenhouse, and a 5-hectare varietal trial garden.

The sugarcane plantation managed by PT Global Papua Abadi spans 506 hectares, with a total investment value of IDR 53.8 trillion. The project is designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN) and represents a continuation of the Food Estate program, aimed at accelerating national sugar self-sufficiency and developing bioethanol as a renewable fuel source
